Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions We know builders face pressure — tight timelines, scaling demands, and design bottlenecks that can stall the pipeline. Here are straight answers to the questions we get asked most, so you can see how Design Australia Group helps you build with clarity, speed, and confidence.

Who is Design Australia Group?

Design Australia Group is the trusted design firm behind some of Australia’s fastest-growing builders. Each year, we design over 700 homes, support $350M+ in builder contracts, and maintain a 90%+ retention rate. We’re builder-aligned, system-driven, and focused on removing bottlenecks so our clients can scale with confidence.

We’re not a traditional studio. We act as your in-house design division:

  • Helped builders grow from 20 → 400 homes per year
  • Supported clients scaling past $100M revenue
  • 700+ homes designed annually, supporting $350M+ in builder contract value, with 150+ years of combined design experience Unlike architect-led firms, our focus is speed, accuracy, and scalability — turning design into a growth engine, not a bottleneck.

Yes. Design Australia Group is fully licensed by the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC Licence No. 1181286). To maintain this licence, we undergo accountant-prepared financial reporting under QBCC’s Minimum Financial Requirements (MFR) — proving financial stability and solvency. Our Directors also hold individual Open Builder Licences, and we maintain comprehensive professional indemnity insurance.

Why this protects builders too: Many drafting firms operate without this level of licensing or financial accountability. By partnering with DAG, you’re backed by compliance, financial security, and insurance protection — every project is delivered responsibly and with confidence.

Predictability is key:
  • Standard designs: ~5 working days
  • Custom or complex scopes: ~10 working days Timeframes depend on project inputs and compliance requirements.
Why this protects builders too: Clear SLAs and categories protect your pipeline. They let your sales and pre-construction teams plan with certainty, reduce costly delays, and keep site starts moving without guesswork.

Beyond delivering for our builder clients, we invest in the future of the industry. Through the Design Australia Academy, we’re helping to establish drafting as a recognised technical trade and creating clearer career pathways for the next generation of designers.

We partner with builders nationwide.
  • QLD, NSW, ACT, WA, NT → active regions (limited placements available)
  • VIC, SA, TAS → priority waitlists (spots opening soon)
  •  See service map for details.
Why this protects builders too: We cap placements per region to protect service quality and avoid over-saturation. This ensures you get priority access to resources and a partner genuinely invested in your growth.
Design Australia Group holds copyright over all plans and documentation. Unless there is written documentation detailing otherwise (in agreement format), all rights remain with us.

  • Redrawing or modifying plans without written consent = copyright breach
  • “% changes” don’t avoid infringement — copyright is based on substantial similarity
  • Builder usage is licensed through agreements that clearly define scope and permissions
Why this protects builders too: Licensing safeguards your business as much as ours. It ensures designs remain consistent, compliant, and secure — reducing the risk of disputes, errors, or IP leaks when scaling
A survey is the foundation of a successful project. It ensures:

  • Accuracy → confirms topography, boundaries, services
  • Compliance → zoning, easements, overlays identified early
  • Risk management → soil, drainage, and site conditions understood
  • Efficiency → reduces waste, prevents rework, streamlines approvals

Why this protects builders too: Surveys protect your budget, schedule, and reputation. By removing unknowns early, you avoid costly rework and minimise disputes with certifiers, councils, and trades down the track.

No — we partner exclusively with builders and developers. This focus allows us to deliver scalable systems, speed, and accuracy at volume — outcomes not possible in one-off retail projects.

That said, as part of our builder support services, we do meet with new homeowners via scheduled online sessions (Teams/Zoom) on behalf of our builder clients. These design brief meetings ensure the builder’s clients feel heard, variations are captured clearly, and projects move forward without delays — strengthening both the builder–homeowner relationship and the construction pipeline.
